Do you have an infatuation with waffles? I sure do! As a child, I can recall my mother preparing breakfast waffles for dinner, leaving me filled with joy. Waffles for dinner made me feel so special. As if I were a princess who could eat whatever she wanted before bed. Now, as I look back, I’ve come to the realization that my mom was just lazy!
International Waffle Day takes place this Saturday and I have some pretty tasty suggestions of where you should indulge, and why.
First, the most important question to ask yourselves when talking “waffle” is why you like them? Is it the texture, the flavor, the toppings or everything? For me, it’s all about the texture. No one wants a soggy, soft waffle and I prefer the corners of my waffles to a be a little crispy. At Grand Lux Cafe not only are the waffles perfect and the house-made “butter syrup” delish, but you have the option of topping it with crispy, smoking hot strips of chicken breast. Pro-tip: Pair your waffle with a Spanish Strawberry Rose!
Looking to enjoy a waffle with a twist? Celebrate International Waffle Day at World of Beer – Katy. Their light & crispy, fresh baked, Belgian Beer infused waffles are topped with toasted marshmallow, graham cracker crumbles and powdered sugar. It’s then drizzled with Kahlua fudge sauce. Though they are more of a dessert, its still a waffle. Pro-Tip: Pair it with a stout beer for a party!
Do you like to enjoy your waffle with a side of live music? Then check out Hearsay Gastro Lounge. This downtown gem is the perfect place to enjoy live music and waffles. They also have the option of adding fried chicken, but these chicken pieces are the real deal. You get the option of crispy-fried chicken wings or drumsticks.
In the mood for a Waffle & Chicken breakfast sandwich? CRISP’s Fried Chicken and Waffle Sanwich is a total winner. Deep fried chicken breast, mozzarella cheese, over easy egg and texas hot sauce syrup. Yes, HOT SAUCE SYRUP!

Brunch and Conversation raves about the chicken and waffles at Adair Kitchen and stating they are “OH MY GOD good,” She also loved on the savory Chicken and Waffle BLT at Harold in the Heights. The lovely ladies over at Urban Swank suggest Max’s Wine Dive’s Cinnamon Roll Waffle Doughnut of which they say is “so good it should be illegal!” Black Girls Who Brunch, rave about the Wheat Waffle at Down House. Stating that she felt healthier after eating it. My motto – tell yourself whatever makes you feel good, even if it’s a lie.
