National Bloody Mary Day

January 1st is National Bloody Mary day. In my opinion Bloody Mary’s are the perfect cocktail to start the new year. A spicy Bloody Mary is the key to recovering from your holiday hangover. In honor of National Bloody Mary Day check out my personal recipe, and a few recommend hot spots to enjoy a Bloody Mary (or 2) around town.

National Bloody Mary Day is quite special because it falls on the first day of the new year. A time for setting resolutions, cleaning old slates, and preparing for a year of happiness and joy.  For me, the first day of the new year is about red solo cups filled with a spicy tomato based cocktail, mixed with various ingredients like Tabasco and horseradish!

A few friends helped me put together a small list of our “Top 3” places for the perfect Bloody Mary.

Fielding’s Wood Grill | The Woodlands has a Bloody Mary menu consisting of four different options ranging from spicy sriracha, to savory candied Mary with bacon smoked dust!  Snooze, an A.M. Eatery has a “Spicy Bloody” that I loved, as well as a “Bangkok” inspired Mary containing sriracha, lime, cilantro, basil & fish sauce. The “Bloody Danton” at Danton’s Gulf Coast Seafood is made with a splash of their house made gumbo roux. Great with their happy hour oyster special. In honor of National Bloody Mary day I also whipped up a “Bloody Maria.” A twist on the classic Mary, using a few favorite ingredients. El Guapo’s Pura Vida Sangrita mix is my ultimate favorite. It’s spicy and warm and pairs perfectly with my vodka of choice, Cinco.

Check out my quick and easy tutorial as well as the ingredients below!

Bloody Maria

1 OZ    VODKA (4 oz for pitchers)
4 OZ    PURA VIDA SANGRITA MIX
2 SQUIRTS OF HORSERADISH
2 – 3 DASHES OF WORCHESTERSHIRE SAUCE
2 -3 DASHES OF TABASCO (totally option)
2 CRACKS OF FRESH BLACK PEPPER
FRESH SQUEEZED LIME JUICE
FRESH CELERY STALK

LIME WHEEL garnish
FRESH CELERY STALK garnish

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Pour over ice. Strain into a tall cocktail glass filled with ice. Garnish with a celery stalk and a lime wheel.

-Happy New Year, Cheers!
