Founded by brothers Jon and Adam Schlegel, Snooze was born on April 2, 2006 in Denver, Colorado seeking to evolve the A.M. dining experience through culinary innovation, an eclectic and energetic atmosphere and comfortable and friendly service.

A select few writers and bloggers were invited to the “soft opening” of Houston’s newest all day breakfast/brunch spot,  SNOOZE, an A.M. Eatery. The menu is stacked solid with all of your favorite morning (or afternoon) classics.

Snooze

“The Pretty, Picky and Indecisive Crew “

I love breakfast & brunch, and could literally eat them at any time. I have fond memories of my mother making breakfast for dinner when I was little. I thought I was “special” because who else was eating fluffy pancakes drenched in brer rabbit syrup before bed?! No one. As I got older I realized that my mom wasn’t making this for me because I was “special,” but because it’s quick, comforting and made everyone in my house happy.

I would use those same words to describe Snooze, as they offer a variety of classic breakfast/brunch options and cocktails, perfect for whole pack. I roll with a “picky” bunch of foodies, and Snooze was able to meet all of our needs. For example, my best friend doesn’t eat eggs and my other friend doesn’t like her food to touch. After glancing at the menu, it was decided that the Pancake “Flights” , French Toast and Benny Duo were perfect options for these fussy foodies!

Snooze

Pancake Flights

Snooze’s “sweet utopia” section of their menu is where you’ll find items like their pancake flights and french toast. They offer unique pancakes like Pineapple Upside Down, Peach Pie, Sweet Potato and Blueberry Danish pancakes. My BFF ordered the pancake flights, but she’s a total “snooze” and ordered three of the same pancakes. Who does that? She’s NO FUN AT ALL, lol. Her Blueberry Danish pancakes were legit though, I could have eaten all three. They were fluffy and flavorful, though the syrup wasn’t brer rabbit, it was still yummy.

The Drunk’n Monkey French Toast, though I didn’t try it, looked perfect. Two griddled slices of custard dipped banana bread topped with rum toffee sauce, toasted walnuts, whipped mascarpone cream and a bruleed banana.

Snooze

Benny Duo

Snooze’s menu has a lot of options to choose from and that tends to overwhelm me. I tend to be very indecisive when given too many choices. I am typically a “let me get one of each” chick, when I can’t make a choice. Luckily for me, while reading Snooze’s “the art of hollandaise” section, I came across the following little note “Benny Duo Can’t decide?! Choose half an order of your two favorite benedict offerings.”  Finally a restaurant that gets me, it’s like we’d met before!

Of course I ordered the Benny Duo and selected half of the Caprese Benedict* and half of the Chilaquiles Benedict. I was presented with a hearty plate of poached (cage-free) eggs, slathered in various hollandaise sauces, summer ripe heirloom tomatoes, flavorful barbacoa beef and various cheeses. One of the best choices on the menu, I highly recommend it!

Snooze

“The Browns”

Another neat thing about Snooze is the “ahhh la carte” section of the menu where you can order your meats (“faux” meats available for the vegetarians), tacos, toast and of course hash browns. Snooze has “fancy” hash browns, of which I assume have been baked in a Ramekin given their circular shape.

Totally not your flat, mashed and flavorless “Waffle House” hash browns. Snooze’s “browns” had some flavor to them, but I don’t know that I loved them. Which is weird because I feel like so much more time and love went into making them. I give them a 3 out of 5, but please believe me when I say that your meal will be just as delicious with or without them.

Snooze

Orange Snoozius

Snooze also offers “morning cocktails” to jump start your day. There are three sections: Bubbles, Bloody’s and Booze where you will find your mimosa’s, bloody mary’s and boozy cocktails. If you want a little “fire in your chest,” the Spicy Bloody is just what you need. It’s a spicy concoction of Snooze House Bloody Mix & Jalapeño Infused Vodka.

Oddly, the same person who ordered the three blueberry pancakes ordered the most “adventerous” drink on the menu. The Orange Snoozius is a drink I personally would never order, because I don’t like ANYTHING orange or that contains the word orange. I don’t like orange juice, oranges, A Clockwork Orange, Donald Trump, I could go on and on. This interesting cocktail is made with Dripping Springs Vodka, Orange Liqueur, Fresh Orange juice & Whipped Cream. As I didn’t even want to look at it after I read what was in it, I had to ask how it was. My friend said it was enjoyable, but she could have done without the whipped cream. Hey, I just noticed they have Michelada’s on the menu…will definitely be back for that!

Snooze is open daily from 6:30 am – 2:30 pm, so hop on over there an tell them Gristle & Gossip sent you!
