“Northside Nooks” is a secluded corner of my world, where I highlight those favorites places and spaces in North Harris County aka the “NAWF” side that should be on your radar!
Houston is a massive metropolis and as a “transplant” I’ve commuted from Spring, Humble, Kingwood and the Woodlands. “Northside Nooks” is where I pay homage to my Northside peeps, with a little list of my favorite grub spots and food stops.
Living on the outskirts of Houston has it’s perks. The main one being that I don’t have to deal with the “hustle and bustle” that city life brings. The caveat of residing outside of Houston city limits is the scarcity of lavish eateries and bars. “Northside Nooks” is dedicated to those, like me, who reside in Spring, Humble, Kingwood or the Woodlands. A small note, one of the places does have a Houston address but based on it’s location it shouldn’t!
♦HUMBLE, TX♦
Wafflez-N-Creamz
126 1st W
Humble, Texas 77338
(281).318.7190
Hours: 6:30 am – midnight
Wafflez-N-Creamz offers guests the ultimate Build Your Own Waffle (BYOW) experience. Diners order a freshly made waffle filled and garnished with fresh (never frozen) fresh fruit of your choice. To make the visit even more sweet Wafflez-N-Creamz also has ice cream that can be added on top of your waffle. During my visit I chatted with the staff about expanding the concept of “BYOW” to incorporate savory pairings. I ordered the sweet potato waffle, topped it with chicken strips and drizzled it with caramel sauce and syrup. The tastiest decision I’ve ever made!
That One Place
3333 Atascocita Road
Humble, TX 77396
(281).852.6261
I visit That One Place almost every weekend and I order the same thing. Either the Polynesian Pineapple with cream, or what I like to call “The Arkansas“ which is Delicious mix of cherry and dill pickle. When That One Place first opened they only served “Louisiana Sno Balls” but have since incorporated real food, like crawfish and shrimp. This is a hopping place when the sun it out, so be prepared to wait in line. It’s a quick wait. The “car-hops” appear to be high school students, so they move pretty fast.
♦SPRING, TX♦
The Catfish Station
18416 Kuykendahl Road
Spring, Texas 77379
(832).823.5997
The Catfish Station is a tried and true go to for my husband and I when we want fried seafood. Owner Tre Thomas is a real cool dude who runs a tight ship. There are three Catfish Stations around town and you can bet your bottom dollar that you will receive great service and leave with a happy belly! I usually order the fish and grits. The house-made tartar sauce is killer and guests can help themselves to as much as they want!
♦KINGWOOD, TX♦
Great Harvest Bread Company (video)
2665 Royal Forest Dr.,Ste B-10
Kingwood, TX 77339
281-973-8203
Great Harvest Bread Co. offers the residents of Kingwood and surrounding areas daily fresh-baked “from scratch” products that not only taste delicious, but kill the guilt that comes with eating bread. Their items are the best ever and contain no preservatives or additives. Customers can select from breakfast or lunch options in gourmet sandwiches, breads (gluten free options available), sweets, and a variety of beverages including coffee drinks, iced coffee, juices and sodas both bottled and fountain. Make sure to try their bread and spread samples, sometimes I go just for that.
♦THE WOODLANDS, TX♦
Fielding’s Wood Grill
1699 Research Forest Dr.
Shenandoah, TX 77380

Fielding’s Grill: Smoke* burger: house grilled bacon, aged Italian provolone, oven dried tomatoes, grilled onions, fried egg, truffle bacon mustard, lettuce, milk bun
Fielding’s Wood Grill serves Brunch, Lunch and Dinner topped with great service. This place gets super packed so plan your weekend accordingly. Their brunch is fabulous, I highly suggest the mimosa flights, the vegetarian skillet and the brûléed french toast.
Fielding’s has a full bar with both Happy Hour and Reverse Happy Hour (Bar only) Monday – Friday from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm and from 9:00 pm to close where select beers are $3, Select wines are $4 and all Specialty Cocktails are 1/2 off. Bar bites like their baked chicken & spinach dip and deviled Texas eggs start at $3 bucks!
Sweet Revenge Bake Shoppe
3091 College Park Dr.
The Woodlands, TX 77384
(936).231.8667
Sweet Revenge Bake Shoppe makes fresh bakes daily where you can find anything from cupcakes and cookies to delectable, bite sized petit fours. The cupcakes are so soft and moist that they put other big named Houston based “cup-cakeries” to shame. They are made from scratch and topped with light and airy butter-creamy love. It can be a bit tricky to locate but once you find it your belly will thank you. Located near St. Luke’s — Woodlands this quaint, sugary shoppe is ready for you to have a closer look inside.
The Lemon Raspberry (the pink one) is my favorite hands down. The center of this cupcake is filled with a mixture of raspberry and lemon pureé, both of which are imported from Italy! You can totally taste the limoncello flavors in each bite. It’s more of a sweet, rich lemon vs. a bitter “pucker,” artificial flavored lemon.
