WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE CRISPY GLUTEN-FREE BAKED BBQ CHICKEN WINGS
- Chicken wings
- Canola oil
- Cornstarch
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Paprika
- Salt
- Pepper
- BBQ Sauce (your favorite sauce or mine!!!!)
HOW TO MAKE CRISPY GLUTEN-FREE BBQ CHICKEN WINGS
- Preheat oven to 400°
- Rinse chicken wings and pat dry.
- Drizzle wings in canola oil.
- Toss wings in the spice rub and cornstarch
- Space wings out on wire rack lined baking sheet or parchment paper
- Bake for 40 minutes, flipping wings over at 20 minutes.
- Turn broiler to high and broil wings for 8 minutes, or until crisp.
- Remove wings from broiler and toss in BBQ sauce.
It’s important to note that the broiler setting on ovens varies. My broiler is located under my stove and is literally an open flame. I have to be very careful to ensure my baked chicken wings don’t burn or worse catch fire! After putting them in the broiler I waited by the stove and constantly checked them!
FRYING VS. BAKING WINGS. WHICH IS BETTER?
Let’s be real, nothing beats crispy fried chicken wings. But baked wings can be just as delicious if done right. The perfect bake time is essential when making crispy baked chicken wings. Broiling them ensures you get that crispy, crunchy skin, and seals in some of the juices.
ARE BAKED WINGS HEALTHIER THAN FRIED?
Short answer. Yes. Baked chicken wings are a healthier alternative to fried ones. If you eat wings every week like we do, baking them is the way to go! Less fat, fewer calories, and less sodium. Peridot.
HOW TO GET CRISPY WINGS
I believe in the power of a little cornstarch. It’s a heavy starch that creates a lacy crust on food. After drizzling the oil over the wings and adding the rub, lightly dust with a little cornstarch before baking. The cornstarch also helps crisp up your chicken skin during the broiling process.
