Grub Burger Bar is an intimate, vibrant and family friendly burger chain known for its innovative specialty burgers & drinks. Located in City Centre, this burger joint will have you leaving full and happy with their delicious varieties of burgers, sides, snacks, salads, cocktails, beers and adult milkshakes.
Grub Burger Bar is located in City Centre Houston, and if you’ve ever visited this self-contained community of sophisticated retail, elegant dining and luxury living, you already know that there are TONS of eateries mixed in throughout this open-air plaza. With so many choices, deciding where to eat could easily become overwhelming.
Last week I was contacted by the fine folks over at Grub Burger Bar for a “Grub Flavors” party, where a group of friends and I tried a few of their tasty selections in honor of National Burger Month. Although, it’s not all about the burgers at Grub, they have many other tasty items (including vegetarian and pescatarian burgers) on their menu, that will ultimately lead to the ordering everything!
We started with the Crawfish Pistolettes and Grub’s Cheese Fries. The Crawfish Pistolettes are scratch made étouffée, wrapped and cooked in a French bread roll, served with their house-made Mississippi Comeback Sauce. I don’t know what is in that Mississippi Comeback sauce, but I will be coming back for it! The étouffée was spicy, savory, and perfect. Not being a huge fan of crawfish (or étouffée for that matter) I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy this, but I did and so did my dinner dates.
Grub Burger Bar’s Cheese Fries weren’t bad either. Nothing fancy, but I do love when my fries have that “harmonic” balance between crispy-crunchy and soft. We ordered our bacon on the side and for a dollar more could have added chili. As we anxiously awaited the arrival of our burgers we decided on a few cocktails.
The drinks at Grub are fun, refreshing and the perfect accompaniment to any burger. They offer “Grub ‘Ritas”, Signature Cocktails and Beers. We skipped on the beers, for fear of being too bloated to eat the burgers when they came. We settled on the Back Porch Punch and Grub’s Signature Infused Margarita.
The Back Porch Pub is a fusion of Bacardi Rum, Red Sangria Mix, Orange Juice and Pineapple Juice. It was light, refreshing and sweet, but Grub’s Signature Infused Margarita was the clear winner among the group. It’s made with Sauza Silver Tequila infused with fresh Pineapple, Watermelon, Berries and Jalapeños. There’s something about that “spicy-sweet” combination that sends my taste buds on a tizzy. Oh, and the fact that this infused rita comes with chunks of sweet watermelon isn’t so bad either.
As we sipped our cocktails and enjoyed the breeze from Grub Burger Bar’s outdoor patio, I noticed our burgers coming out (and heard harps). We all ordered different burgers, so the kitchen kindly cut them into fours. Our first burger was The Lockhart Legend. It comes with applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, housemade Dr Pepper BBQ sauce, topped with two hand battered onion rings and sliced dill pickles. As we were sharing burgers we asked that our onion rings be on the side. Our burgers were juicy and delicious! The magic happened when we put the onion rings on top. The crunch from the rings and the juice from the burger made it disappear. Literally into thin air, we still don’t know what happened to this burger! LOL
The Jive Turkey Burger was good. Not nearly as good as the beef burgers (imo) but it’s a great alternative for non-beef eaters. 100% turkey breast, ground and pesto seasoned, with bacon, swiss, sprouts, avocado, and chipotle aioli on a wheat bun.
Nothing beats a juicy AND messy burger. I couldn’t resist taking an up close and personal photo with Grub Burger Bar’s VooDoo Mushroom Burger. Who wouldn’t want to take a fat bite out a juicy, medium well burger topped with Absinthe sautéed mushrooms, swiss cheese, and Tabasco mayo? I don’t even like mushrooms. Especially, soft, sauteed mushrooms, but this burger was a hit. I even took some home for my hubby to try. The cat got to it first, but he seemed happy once we let him out of time out!
The fun at Grub Burger Bar doesn’t stop with the burgers. They have fierce, dairy free handspun, handcrafted and spiked (adult) milkshakes. I don’t do MILK and I shouldn’t do milk+alcohol, but I am a glutton for punishment. I have to be honest with you, at this point, I was just eating to be eating! I couldn’t even tell you which milkshake I had, but I think it was the Bourbon & Caramel. No description needed here, just three simple words: sweet, boozy and delicious. Grub Burger Bar’s adult milkshake brings all the girls to the yard!
